The Shelborne is a condo-hotel. We rent out our room privately at a great discount from the "official" Shelborne Hotel program. Please note, however, that as our private guests, you are not entitled to use room service, Front Desk Services, valet parking or daily maid service. You can use the restaurants and bars, but won't be able to bill any charges incurred there to your room. If you can do without some of these traditional hotel amenities, you will have the use of a great oceanview room on the beach in a hotel in a very hot area of South Beach for 40-60% off the going rate.
You can use the gym, saunas, pool (including towels and chaise), whirlpools, common areas (bars and restaurant - no charging to room), and the luggage cart. There is a concierge who may be helpful with reservations around town, especially if you tip him.
We have a phone in the room that provides unlimited local outgoing service and can receive incoming calls as well. You will need to use a credit card or your own cell phone, however, to make long distance or international calls.
Our room contains two full sized beds, a huge leather club chair with ottoman, a small round table and two chairs, and a kitchenette unit with mini-fridge, microwave and sink. There is no room for a cot. We prefer to rent out to 3 people or less at a time since we only have two beds, and the room is small (as are all Art Deco hotel rooms). There is a wall mounted cable remote TV (w/HBO) and a stereo CD/cassette player, also with remote. We recently added a DVD player (with remote). The room comes supplied with linens, bathroom towels, beach towels, beach umbrella and chairs. Our private bathroom has a pedestal sink and a full bathtub/shower (it has great water pressure!). There is free wireless internet in the lobbyand pool area, as well as an internet kiosk in the lobby (fee service), or you can plug in your laptop and dial up from our room. The Lobby area also has a pull down TV/film screen for big sports events, so you can have a drink, websurf and watch the games at the same time! There is a very popular Karaoke bar in the basement of the hotel.
We'll provide you with extra towels, and do a change of towels and sheets every 7 days, and some light cleaning and vaccuming, provided you permit us some time to come into the room. We have cleaning supplies in the kitchenette for small clean-ups. We also supply a vacuum. There are basic food supplies (the unit has a mini-fridge and a microwave), and some appliances (hot water heater, coffeepot, toaster, blender, etc). Of course, we ask our guests to please treat the room with respect and keep it clean. No smoking is permitted in the room.
There is no free street parking in South Beach. There is metered parking only, and the meters are in effect from 9 a.m. to 12 midnight. There are a couple of public parking lots and some private lots within walking distance of the hotel (There is valet parking at the Shelborne, but it is not available to private guests.) We suggest that our guests leave their cars at home. South Beach is very easy to get around without a car. You can walk to most places. Cabs are plentiful and public transportation is outside the door. If you need a car, you can rent one from the tourist office across the street from the hotel, or walk to Avis or Thrifty a few blocks away.
